Plan, Review, Re-plan, Repeat

“Plan early, plan twice”

A military expression I’m led to believe. I think it follows the principle – also military – of “no plan survives first contact” (with the enemy). I take this to mean don’t get into too much detail or, more than that, convince yourself into the delusion that your plan will work out!

“Plans are nothing, planning is everything”

I think this is most widely attributed to Napoleon. I take this to mean than the process of planning and, crucially replanning, is more important than the plan itself. News for those of us who (foolishly, naively) assume that if we simply follow our plan we will get to where we want to get to.

“If you want to make God laugh, show him your plans”

This one is Woody Allen’s I’m pretty sure.

There is perhaps a theme emerging in these three quotes – plan, review, re-plan, repeat. A bit like good financial planners do?
