We have teamed up with J1 Coaching to talk about some of the things we can all do to make small changes and improve our well-being. Jim Constable is a friend of FiveWays and we are delighted he has agreed to share his knowledge and expertise with our clients:
Retirement is not the finish line. It’s a transition and with that comes change.
After the initial holiday period - 6 months, 12 months, whatever - you might find yourself asking “Is this it?”

Finding purpose can help with mental well-being and purpose can take many forms:
- Volunteering – supporting causes, mentoring, or community service
- Lifelong learning – taking courses, reading, exploring new subjects or skills
- Creative pursuits – art, writing, music, crafts, or other forms of personal expression
- Physical and Mental Wellbeing – staying active, mindful, and healthy through fitness or wellness practices
- Social connections – nurturing relationships with friends, family, and community
- Personal projects and passions – working on things you’ve always wanted to do (e.g. travel, gardening, building something, starting a
- small venture)
It’s worth remembering that your retirement is unique to you, and that you are free to change your mind.
A sense of purpose might clearly hit you on the forehead like a sledgehammer, or alternatively clarity might come to you through exploration and action. Either way it will help your retirement to be as fulfilling you want it to be.
